Fall/Winter 2019
Best of Style x Best of Performance 2.0
BOOST YOU WEAR X 2.0
BYW or “Boost You Wear” was born from the collective adidas memories of the 90’s clashing with the latest of the brand’s technology. As part of the adidas Originals design team, my role was to design the second iteration of the BYW franchise, and continue to combine the worlds of tech and style.

Sketching & mock ups
PROCESS
One of the ways I enjoy mixing up my process is to do quick, crude mock ups. These are similar to rough sketches for me and allow me to then use them as a point of inspiration for further sketching and ideating.
REFINED DIRECTION
tech
During some more research, I found a key element from the archive that could visually tell the TORSION story and also not feel out of place in 2019.
PROTOTYPING
From hand sculpting to digital sculpting in Zbrush.
ICONOGRAPHY
Focus on the iconography of each BYW shoe to find the unique visual memory and ensure we distinguish this product from the others.
FINAL DIRECTION
PROCESS CONCLUSION
As the second shoe in the BYW X lineup, it was not only challenging to find the balance between style and performance, but also to consider how to best accomplish a strong “sequel”. One that gives our customers something new and better, that works on court and off.
Of course, none of this would have been possible without the collaboration and guidance of the adidas Originals team. VP Design Nic Galway, Design Director Chris Law, Senior Designer Prad Indrakumar, Color and Materials design Andrew Parks, Product Marketing Sven Hermann and Tom Smith, Developers Olivia Guo, Theresa Tu.
